Confirmed by Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Samsung is in the process of constructing a state-of-the-art smartphone manufacturing plant in Beni Suef, covering a substantial area of 6,000 square meters. This venture is anticipated to generate approximately 1,400 jobs, both direct and indirect, primarily benefitting the economy of Upper Egypt.
The decision to establish this manufacturing hub came after a pivotal meeting between Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Amr Talaat, and Samsung Egypt’s Chairman of the Board of Directors, Jun Soo Jung. This strategic move aligns with Samsung’s mission to meet the burgeoning demand for its latest phones within the Egyptian market.
While construction is slated to commence in the fourth quarter of this year, it’s unlikely that the factory will commence operations before the following year. Although the facility’s primary focus is expected to cater to the local Egyptian market, this endeavor marks a significant step for Samsung in diversifying its global manufacturing network.
Notably, this Egyptian plant, despite its local orientation, showcases Samsung’s commitment to embracing new territories and leveraging local talent. While the bulk of Samsung’s smartphone production still emanates from its colossal facilities in Vietnam, this expansion echoes Samsung’s strategy of establishing regional manufacturing bases to meet localized demands efficiently.
As the construction gears up to begin, the Samsung-Egypt collaboration promises economic growth, technological advancement, and employment opportunities, heralding a new era in Egypt’s tech industry. In a world increasingly interconnected, Samsung’s decision to manufacture in Egypt is a testament to the nation’s growing significance on the global technological stage.
